Fresenius wins award
Fresenius Medical Care Eastern Wake facility, 670 Granite Vista Drive, Rolesville, was awarded the Center of Excellence designation for achieving the highest standards in patient care in 2013.
The annual award recognizes the best-performing Fresenius dialysis facilities nationwide, based on multiple objective measures of clinical quality.
Notary class Friday
Wake Tech will teach a notary public class Friday from 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Wake Forest Area Chamber boardroom, 350 S. White St.
Participants will take an exam at the end of the class and complete the notary public application.
The fee is $150 for members and $175 for non-members.

Feed store opens
Cowboy’s Feed Connection, 119 W. Main St., Youngsville, hosts a grand opening Aug. 23 from 1 to 5 p.m.
Jerome Davis, 1995 PRCA bull riding champion, is scheduled to appear at the opening with his wife Tiffany.
Mechanical bull rides and pony rides are offered, and hot dogs will be served.

Golf for UWFC
A golf tournament to benefit United Way of Franklin County is scheduled Aug. 27 starting at 8:30 a.m. at the River Golf and Country Club in Bunn.
Golfers are invited to sign up sponsors and may play all day, half a day, or as many holes as they are able. Breakfast and lunch are included in the $50 entry fee.
Sponsorships and goody-bag donations are needed. Prizes are awarded for most holes played, most money raised, longest drives and closest to pin.

Patriot Golf Day Labor Day weekend
Capital Golf Center, 9820 Capital Blvd., will participate in the 8th Annual Patriot Golf Day to be held nationwide Aug. 29-Sept. 1.
During the event, $1 from each bucket of range balls sold will be donated to the Folds of Honor Foundation. Patrons will also be able to make monetary donations.
Additionally, veterans are invited to play mini-golf at no charge that weekend.
A joint initiative of the PGA of America and the USGA, Patriot Golf Day raises funds to support the Folds of Honor Foundation, providing post-secondary educational scholarships to children and spouses of service members killed or disabled while serving in America’s Armed Forces.
