The dynamic duo of Local Gamers enjoy staying current with all the latest trends in gaming. We also keep up with television shows, comics and movies. Some of our readers have asked where we go to get information on all of these topics.
My personal favorite is IGN, formerly known as Imagine Games Network. IGN is an entertainment website that focuses on video games, movies, music, technology, television and many other forms of media.
Originally created as a network of websites in 1996 based in California, IGN focused solely on news about video gaming consoles. In 2005, they had 24 million unique visitors per month and 4.8 million registered users. With this much popularity, the company succeeded in acquiring a multimedia news corporation the following year.
At this point, IGN started broadening its coverage into computer gaming and movies. The biggest growth to help IGN came from the company’s buy out of its rival, UGO Entertainment.
This upgrade has helped IGN tackle almost every part of the media market, and the company’s writers stay on top of anything entertainment-worthy all around the world.
I found IGN while Googling video game strategy guides as a teenager. At that time, it wasn’t much of a website, compared with many of its competitors. A few years later while searching the Internet about the release of a video game that I wanted, IGN had all the information for it.
IGN offers great commentary on any big news coming up in the gaming world. The writers keep it casual as if it were me a conversation between friends. This ultimately won my heart.
Today, the website is maintained and hosted by average people who just love gaming. Anyone is welcome to go to the website, ign.com. Whatever your gender, background or what you do on weekends for fun, IGN has something to interest you.
It is almost impossible to read everything they release on their website and live a normal life with the volume of material being huge. They do slow down on the weekends, but with an average of 10 articles almost every hour, you might as well stick with what interests you the most.
If you have interest in the technology field or entertainment industry, IGN can be a great resource.
