Albert Herr (Al) Maxwell, Jr. of Rolesville, died suddenly Thursday, May 29, 2014. He was born February 21, 1937, in Asheville, and was son of the late Albert H. Maxwell Sr. and Nelda Wilson Maxwell. He grew up in Morganton, and attended N.C. State University, receiving a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. Al worked at Westinghouse from 1959 until his retirement in 2000.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Pitts Maxwell, after 34 years of marriage.
Al is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 11 years, Sandra Jean Maxwell, her three children, Becky Irwin and her husband, Phil; Bill Wells and his wife, Wendy; and Greg Wells. Also surviving are their grandchildren Nick and Lindsay Irwin, Calvin and Kelsi Wells, Amanda Berube and one great-grandson, Geoffrey.
He is also survived by his two daughters, Elizabeth Maxwell Fondo and Sarah Maxwell Collins. He was the grandfather of Ashley and Jacob Naegele, and Maxwell, Davis and Wade Collins. He is also survived by his only brother, James Maxwell, and many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and special son-in-law, Luis Fondo.
A memorial service was conducted Sunday, June 1, at Hope Lutheran Church in Wake Forest.
Al was an active member at Hope Lutheran Church, and donations may be made to the church at 3525 Rogers Road, Wake Forest, N.C. 27587.
