YOUNGSVILLE — The Youngsville Woman’s Club has their annual Soup Day Thursday, Feb. l9 beginning at 11 a.m. at the Youngsville Community House on East Main Street. The chicken and vegetable recipe is more than l00 years old, according to organizers.
For regular connesseurs of the event, there is one major change this year — the club is only selling the soup as take-out in quart containers for $8 per quart.
“We will also be selling homemade baked goods along with the soup,” said member Mary Jo Buffaloe in a written statement. “Take some of each home for a wonderful lunch or dinner.”
Club members will also be selling their local history book, Sketches of Youngsville and Pacific.
Soup Day will last until they are sold out. For those that would like to order ahead, call Mary Buffaloe at 919-556-2477 or 919-210-0789. Members can deliver in the Youngsville/Franklinton/Wake Forest areas for orders of five quarts or more.
If the weather is nice, the club will set up a table along Main Street for those who’d like to drive by and pick up soup.
Each year, the Youngsville Woman’s Club gives a $500 scholarship to a local high school senior to go towards books and supplies needed for college. This year, the Woman’s Club will also be assisting some of the local Girl Scout troops with their vests and badges.
“All of the funds we raise go towards our local projects and scholarships,” said Buffaloe. “We thank the community for 60 years of support for our club activities. We look forward to many more years of volunteering.”
