•Saturday — This year Wake Forest will again host its Arbor Day celebration and tree seedling giveaway on the same day. Both events, plus an Arbor Day Expo, are scheduled for Saturday, March 21, at E. Carroll Joyner Park, 701 Harris Road, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Arbor Day ceremony is at 11 a.m.
There will be a soccer demonstration, urban beekeeping discussions and the release of a rehabilitated hawk back into the wild.
Residents will also have the opportunity to learn about and sign up for the Wake Forest Tree Stewards Volunteer Program. Children will have the opportunity to participate in various art activities as well as a special raffle prize drawing just for kids.
•March 28 — The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department is sponsoring its annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 28, at E. Carroll Joyner Park, 701 Harris Road. Event organizers will hide over 10,000 Easter eggs. Kids who discover the rare golden eggs will receive a special prize.
The hunt times are, 10 a.m. for ages 3 and under, 10:20 a.m. for ages 4-6, 10:40 a.m. for ages 7-9, 11 a.m. for ages 10-12 and 11:30 a.m. for children with special needs.
Food vendors are Oscar Williams Cotton Candy, PDQ, Kona Ice, Jay’s Italian Ice and Lumpy’s Ice Cream.
•April 4 — The second annual Dirt Day in downtown Wake Forest will have activities for the entire family.
Kids can play in an oversized sandbox or make wheatgrass containers for home windowsills. Adults can learn about the newest techniques in gardening and composting, see a beekeeping demonstration and visit with a variety of vendors.
Dirt Day participants can also spend time with Master Gardeners and outdoor educators from the N.C. Museum of Natural History.
•April 17-19 and April 24-26 — HerbFest at Festival Park, 525 S. White St.
•April 26-May 31, Sundays, 5 p.m. — The 2015 Six Sundays in Spring concert series will be held on consecutive Sundays at E. Carroll Joyner Park, 701 Harris Road. Bring the kids, friends, a picnic and a blanket and settle in for some foot-tapping, finger-snapping good times. Sponsored by Wake Forest ARTS.
The first act, April 26, is MikeMickXer, a trio of musicians with a diverse and eclectic repertoire of rockabilly, reggae, blues, R&B, and rock & roll.
•Saturday — The Franklin County Cooperative Extension Office will sponsor the annual tree giveaway in celebration of Arbor Day, starting at 9 a.m. The event takes place at the Farmers Market located at the Shannon Village Shopping Center in Louisburg.
Trees will be given away for free on a first-come, first- serve basis. Bare root trees including Crape Myrtle, Persimmon, River Birch, White Oak, Willow Oak, Loblolly Pine and Southern Crabapple will be available.
•March 28 — The Friends of the Youngsville Library host their annual Easter egg hunt at 1 p.m. There will be Easter egg hunts for several age groups, face painting, a bouncy inflatable, candy, prizes and the Easter Bunny. •April 4 — The Rolesville Chamber of Commerce will hold their annual Easter egg hunt 12-5 p.m. at Rolesville Main Street Park behind Sanford Creek Elementary School. The community celebration will feature activities perfect for children ages 0-12 years old. The hunts will go in order of youngest to oldest every 30 minutes.
