Nearly 100 citations, three for driving while impaired, were issued Saturday night at a DWI checkpoint headed by Franklinton Police officers at the intersection of U.S. 1 and U.S. 1A in Franklinton.
In addition to the DWI arrests, officers charged five with possessing open containers of alcohol in the vehicle, three with marijuana possession and 12 with driving with a revoked license.
They also issued citations for six seat belt and eight child restraint violations, along with numerous expired inspection stickers, expired registration and other traffic charges.
The Highway Patrol, Franklin County Sheriff's Department and Bunn Police Department also participated in the checkpoint.
Franklinton Officer Adam Carlson said he considers the department's third annual July checkpoint a success, despite a 30-minute traffic delay.
"We had more citations this year than we've had the previous two," he said. "Hopefully this will show we have zero tolerance for these kinds of things in Franklin County."
