The eighth annual Gobbler’s Run 5K is, so far, the largest foot race in Wake Forest and proceeds directly benefit the Wake Forest Boys & Girls Club.
Chiropractic Partners of Wake Forest manages the race under the direction of Cat Redd and everything stops and starts at the Boys & Girls Club, 325 S. Wingate St.
Half the fun of the Gobbler’s Run is the groups that show up in costume and race together. The Gobbler’s Run is perfectly suited for those runners looking for a professional chip time race as well as the family with young children who prefers to stroll the entire course.
Online registration is available now and registration will be permitted race day, you just have to get there early — like 6:45 a.m. The race begins with the serious runners in front at 8 a.m.
See www.gobblersrun.com for more information.
The Skinny Turkey Half Marathon and JUST THINK FIRST 5K began three years ago at Wakefield High and benefits the Just Think First program at the school.
The Just Think First program raises awareness on various topics that affect teens in society today including violence, relationships, drugs, alcohol, gangs and negative peer pressure. The goal is to provide powerful messages to students regarding safe and responsible choices they can make.
These races are also chip timed for the seriously minded runners and start and stop at Wakefield High School, 2200 Wakefield Pines Drive, Raleigh. The Skinny Turkey Half Marathon starts at 7:30 a.m. and the 5K at 8.
Registration on Thanksgiving Day may be available if the event is not full, but the best bet is to register online by deadline, Monday, Nov. 25. Students 18 years old or younger get reduced fee of $15 if they register online. See www.fsseries.com for more information.
For both the Gobblers Run and the JUST THINK FIRST 5K/Skinny Turkey Half Marathon, the earlier you register, the cheaper it is, although since all money supports their respective organizations, that’s not too much of a big deal. So get online and get ready to get on the road!
