Dyanne Matzkevich has been elected president of the N.C. Cemetery Association. She has helped families as the manager of Pine Forest Memorial Gardens in Wake Forest and Gethsemane Memorial Gardens in Zebulon for 10 years.
Pine Forest Memorial Gardens is the only cemetery in the state that has a natural burial ground certified by the Green Burial Council, which Matzkevich developed four years ago.
Johnson named FatCat marketing coordinator
Michael Johnson was recently hired as marketing coordinator at FatCat Strategies, a full service-marketing firm, after interning since summer 2012. He has spent the past three years interning in the marketing field.
Johnson is originally from Mount Airy. He graduated from N.C. State University in May, where he studied business administration, concentrating in marketing and minoring in graphic communications.
Johnson’s responsibilities include drafting customer-centric content and managing marketing projects.
Manufacturing forum, July 18
Franklin, Vance and Warren Counties, in combination with Vance-Granville Community College and the North Carolina Institute for Emerging Issues, host a Manufacturing Works forum with discussion focusing on manufacturing in the community. The forum will be Thursday, July 18, from 8-10:15 a.m. at the VGCC civic center, 200 Community College Road, Henderson. It will consist of a panel to discuss manufacturing topics that are important and relevant to business. There will also be breakout sessions to get input about how to best align the needs of businesses with educational systems.

The 2013 Business Summit, organized by the Vance-Granville Community College small business center in partnership with the Granville County Chamber of Commerce, the Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber of Commerce of Warren County and the Greater Franklin County Chamber of Commerce, is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 22, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the VGCC civic center.
With the theme, Knowing What’s Vital to Your Business Today, the event will include discussions on health-care, branding, marketing and leadership. The Business Summit features not only guest speakers and informative presentations, but also opportunities for area businesses and organizations that co-sponsor the event to tell attendees about their products and services in an expo setting.
VGCC and the chambers are currently seeking sponsors at various levels, including Presenting Sponsor, Gold Sponsor and Silver Sponsor.
