Franklin Medical Center recognized for excellence
VHA Central Atlantic has recognized Novant Health Franklin Medical Center (FMC), Louisburg, with two national awards. FMC was listed as one of six facilities that demonstrated a 20-percent or greater reduction in 30-day heart failure readmission rate in July-December 2012 compared to the baseline period of October 2010-March 2011.
FMC was also one of three hospitals reporting a 50-percent or greater reduction in rate of falls with injury in calendar year 2012 as compared with calendar year 2011.
VHA Central Atlantic is one of 13 regions in VHA Inc., a national network of not-for-profit health care organizations. Formerly known as Voluntary Hospitals of America, VHA serves more than 1,350 hospitals and more than 72,000 non-acute care providers nationwide.

Learn to market your farm
The Franklin County Cooperative Extension Office employees know that farmers, both large and small, need to successfully promote their business.
To help, they have organized a workshop at the Extension Center’s annex, 103 S. Bickett Blvd., Louisburg, from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m., Thursday, June 20.
Participants will learn how to promote their farm on the Internet. Various forms of marketing will be taught, including the use of social media, e-mail marketing, creating marketing websites and how to take photos and edit them.
Attendees will need to bring their own laptop to the workshop. The minimal fee of $15 includes lunch and refreshments.

Support Wake Forest Farmers Market June 24
The Wake Forest Farmers Market hosts a fundraiser at The Fire Pit BBQ & Smokehouse Monday, June 24, 6:30 p.m.
The menu will include a five-course farm-to-table spread.
The price of $65 includes iced tea and coffee, and there is a $20 charge for wine pairings. Tickets can be purchased at the Farmers Market manager’s booth Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon and Wednesday from 3 to 6 p.m.
Factory updates soccer field
MVP Sports Factory in Wake Forest has renovated its indoor soccer field.
MVP upgraded its soccer field to feature brand new rubber infill turf, permanent lines and an improved playing surface for stability. MVP saw great success with a similar style turf integrated into their training room last year and anticipate that it will be an effective enhancement for the players who utilize their facility.
