Wake Forest Power video wins award
Home Grown Power, a video tribute to Wake Forest Power’s linemen, and line workers everywhere, earned the 2013 Audience Choice Award at the American Public Power Association’s annual Customer Connections Conference last week in Portland, Oregon.
Wake Forest Power’s video titled “Home Grown Power” received the most votes from among 10 submissions, including entries by Santee Cooper, ElectriCities of NC and Nebraska Public Power District.
Produced by the Town of Wake Forest in partnership with Kino Mountain Productions, the video highlights the extraordinary commitment to safety and training required to be a lineman while also emphasizing the unique fraternity to which all line workers belong.
Home Grown Power airs daily on Wake Forest TV 10 at 8:20 a.m., 12:20 p.m. and 7:20 p.m. It may also be viewed online at wakeforestnc.gov/linemans-video.aspx.
Edward Jones collecting toys for Christmas
The Edward Jones office of Jim Staples is collecting toys for Christmas for the clients of Safespace. New, unwrapped toys may be dropped off at the Youngsville office, 126 W. Main St., Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. through Friday, Dec. 6.
Toys will also be collected during the Youngsville Christmas Parade, Saturday, Dec. 7.

Rolesville Chamber looks for Santa sponsors
Santa will be visiting with local children at the Rolesville Chamber of Commerce office Dec. 8, 10, 13, 17, 20 and 22. Sponsorships are currently being offered. Nominate a citizen of year and more
The Greater Franklin County Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for Citizen of the Year, Helping Hands and Business of the Year awards that will be given out at the Annual Banquet and Meeting on January 16, 2014.
Criteria for citizen of year: Individual, business or organization that has had a significant impact on the community through their volunteer and charitable activities; has shown leadership and performance in many areas of community service during an extended period of time; and has over the years contributed to the general benefit of the community as a whole.
Criteria for business of year: A business that has been actively involved in Chamber events, reflected the goals of the chamber, made the best use of chamber programs and resources; and has shown entrepreneurial qualities and exhibited potential for growth and expansion while promoting itself in a professional manner.
Criteria for helping hands: Individual, business or organization that has contributed outstanding support for the community through their time and dedication to one or more projects in their local community.
