This tournament remembers and honors Wake Forest High school’s students killed in an automoble crash by awarding two $2,500 scholarships to a WFHS senior each year.

Hodges Insurance hosts healthcare seminar
Affordable Care Act and Healthcare Reform — what does it mean for you?
Hodges Insurance is hosting a free educational session to address questions about the changes in health insurance and how it affects consumers.
Topics include figuring out eligibility for financial help, understanding subsidies, important dates and deadlines and how to apply for health insurance.

The Falls Day Spa benefits cancer patients
In conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness month, The Falls Day Spa, located at 1002 Durham Road, Wake Forest, is honoring patients currently undergoing, or have recently undergone, radiation or chemotherapy treatment.
By way of introducing their Oncology Support Program the spa is offering free treatments during limited appointment times on selected dates during the months of October and November.

Youngsville business collects for cancer center
During the month of October, Jim Staples’ Edward Jones office will be collecting the following items for the Rex Cancer Center: unscented travel size lotion, lightweight scarves, floppy hats and bandanas.
Items may be dropped off during regular business hours, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., at the downtown Youngsville office located at 126 West Main Street.

Wine tasting, auction to benefit cancer center
To celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October), the Friends of the Franklin County Cancer Center and Youngsville Wine and Beer are hosting Bosom Buddies, a wine tasting and silent auction, Oct. 12, 7 p.m. at Youngsville Wine and Beer, 120 East Main St., Youngsville.
Funds raised will help pay for mammograms for women who need financial assistance.
Tickets for the event are $15 each and are available at Youngsville Wine & Beer and the Franklin County Cancer Center, 113 Jolly St., Louisburg.

Raleigh Fire Department hiring now
The Raleigh Fire Department will be taking applications for the position of Firefighter I beginning through Oct. 30, at 4 p.m.
A Firefighter employment application may be obtained at any City of Raleigh Fire Station, the Keeter Fire Training Center or the City of Raleigh Human Resources Department. Applications may also be downloaded from the department’s web site at .raleighnc.gov/fire
Firefighter employment applications may be submitted in person or by mail and must be received by 4 pm, or postmarked on or before the closing date of Oct. 30.
Applications are not accepted by fax or email.
The starting salary is $32,673.73 annually.
