Angela Jamison receives Rising Star Award
WAKE FOREST — Angela Bendorf Jamison, president and owner of Communicopia Marketing Services Inc. in Wake Forest, was recently honored with the Rising Star Award from the National Association of Women Business Owners of Greater Raleigh (NAWBO-GR).
Jamison was presented with the Rising Star Award during the organization’s annual meeting and installation event.
The award recognizes a NAWBO-Greater Raleigh member who has joined the group within the most recent 18 months and supports the chapter through active participation in meetings, events and committees; promotion and networking.
Communicopia is a full-service public relations marketing agency.
Jamison had an extensive career as a newspaper reporter and editor, public relations/advertising professional and corporate communications manager before founding Communicopia in Raleigh in 1998.
Winners of the Rising Star award are nominated by fellow members and chosen by the NAWBO board of directors.
Wine tasting, auction to benefit cancer center
YOUNGSVILLE — To celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October), the Friends of the Franklin County Cancer Center and Youngsville Wine and Beer are hosting Bosom Buddies, a wine tasting and silent auction, Oct. 12, 7 p.m. at Youngsville Wine and Beer, 120 East Main St., Youngsville.
Funds raised will help pay for mammograms for women who need financial assistance.
“One hundred percent of the proceeds will stay in Franklin County,” said Paige McLaurin of the Friends of the Franklin County Cancer Center. “The Center works to help meet needs such as nutrition education, transportation and other items like wigs and wraps. But these funds are to help provide mammograms.”
Entertainment will be by Crystal Dawn Baker.
Tickets for the event are $15 each and are available at Youngsville Wine & Beer and the Franklin County Cancer Center, 113 Jolly St., Louisburg.

LOUISBURG — Novant Health Franklin Family Medicine clinicians Lori Peele, MD, and Sasha Dunbar, nurse practioner, are hosting a lunch and workshop on living a healthy, gluten-free lifestyle Friday, noon-1 p.m. at the Novant Health Franklin Medical Center, 100 Hospital Dr., Louisburg.
Guest speakers include Julie Kephart and Susan White, both dietitians at Novant Health Franklin Medical Center. Cost of attendance is $5.

Dart tournament Sept. 23
WAKE FOREST — Wake Forest downtown’s White Street Brewery will host a dart tournament Sept. 23, 7 p.m. There will be 16 teams of two each, and singles will be randomly partnered with other single entrants.
