FRANKLIN COUNTY — A number of area businesses are donating 10 percent or more of their sales or offering other discounts on upcoming dates to support the newly created Franklin County Education Foundation.
Foundation members hope to raise money to help the county’s teachers provide essential classroom items.
“As a lifelong Franklin County resident and former teacher, I, along with 600 Franklin County teachers, need your help,” foundation fundraising chairman Twig Wiggins notes in a written appeal to businesses and their patrons. “We citizens will help you increase your business and you can help us help the students and teachers improve education. I, along with others I know, personally promise to patronize every business that helps us.”
Wiggins also asks for suggestions on how businesses and individuals can help with the effort — whether it be through auctions, banquets or other fundraisers.
“I want to help our county catch up,” he wrote. “Let’s do this!”
The dates include:
•Sept. 10-11, 17-18 — Hill Ridge Farms, in Youngsville. Free admission to teachers.
•Sept. 13, 5 a.m. - 2 p.m. — Sunrise Biscuits, in Louisburg.
•Sept. 19, 5-10 p.m. — Milton’s Pizza & Pasta, in Wakefield.
•Nov. 30 — Diamond Pizza, in Youngsville. Donating 10 percent of proceeds for those who mention the Franklin County Education Foundation at checkout.
