Charles Barrett Mitchell, 83, of Durham, died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013. He was born in Franklin County, the son of the late Lydia Hazel Green Mitchell and Owen M. Mitchell. He was retired as a senior claims adjuster with GMAC and was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served as a military police officer. Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Wright Mitchell; a son, Timothy Charles Mitchell; a brother, Henry Carl Mitchell and by a sister, Jewel Mitchell Davis.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013 in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Baggett officiating. Burial was in the Youngsville Cemetery.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by a daughter, Sherry Ann Whitfield and husband, Keith, of Durham; sons, Barry Dean Mitchell and wife, Caryl, of Tryon, Jeffrey Brian Mitchell and wife, Laurie, of Durham and Steven Charles Mitchell of Youngsville; a sister, Sarah Mitchell Lowery of Youngsville; brother, Fred Mitchell of Youngsville; grandchildren, Kevin Mitchell, Vlad Mitchell, Tim and Heather Whitfield, Nina Mitchell and Ashley Whitfield; great-granddaughters, Rayne and Elizabeth Whitfield; grand dogs, Barney, Duke, Brownie, Ginger and Lola; best friend, Norris Porter.

Pallbearers were James Lowery, Charles Mitchell, Jerry Davis, Don Davis, Glenn Mitchell and Doug Murray. Honorary pallbearers were Dennis Mitchell and Ronnie Mitchell.
