YOUNGSVILLE — The Cypress Creek Civitan Club made a donation to the Miracle League of Franklin County at the new Miracle League field on Long Mill Road in Youngsville, behind Long Mill Elementary School, Saturday.
Cypress Creek Civitan Club has been an integral part of the Miracle League almost since its inception.
Donna Wade, executive director of the Miracle League, is a Cypress Creek member; Kathy Kirby, the club president, serves on the Miracle League board of directors and another member, Mark Fetky, has coached in the league since the first game was played.
Other Cypress Creek Civitan Club members helping with Miracle League include Josh Feuerhelm, who coached four seasons until his relocation to Alaska for his job in August; Jim Kirby, who runs the snack and beverage stand; Brenda Smithwick, immediate past president, Jane Keller, and Darlene McKenney who have worked the registration table for every season and Jim Vargo who does whatever is needed whenever he is available.
Ken Smithwick serves as photographer, documenting the club’s involvement with the Miracle League; Quinton Stancil, the newest member, is a coach and a parent of a Miracle League athlete, and the District East Civitan Governor, Marlene Jewell, was also present at the presentation.
Civitan International is an organization whose mission statement is, “To build good citizenship by providing a volunteer organization of clubs dedicated to serving individual and community needs with an emphasis on helping people with developmental disabilities.”
