Claire P. Scarboro, 86, was called home to be with the Lord Monday, Aug. 4, 2014. She was born Dec. 19, 1927, in Wake County, daughter of the late Spencer Pulley and Julia Blackley Pulley.
She was a dedicated member of Rolesville Baptist Church and served in many different capacities over the years, including as church clerk for 26 years, Sunday school and training union teacher and director, WMU director, GA leader, and Cub Scout leader. She was the first female deaconess elected by the church body.
Claire attended Rolesville High School and Wake Forest College. She worked at the Department of Motor Vehicles for 37 years and rose to the position of assistant director of the License and Theft Division prior to her retirement in 1984. After her retirement, she traveled to each of the 50 states with her husband and their close friends, Coley and Mary Alice Barham.
Claire was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Edward Walter Scarboro Sr. She is survived by sons, Eddie W. Scarboro and wife, Kim, and Spencer Scarboro and wife, Donna, all of Wake Forest; and grandchildren, Bobby, Jordan, Zack, Walt and Allison.
A memorial service will be held at Rolesville Baptist Church Sunday, Aug. 10, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Family Life Center. Burial will be private.
