Clarence G. Briggs, 87, of Wake Forest died Friday, June 28, 2013 at the Durham VA Hospital. He was born in Vance County, the son of the late James Washington Briggs and Beulah Edwards Briggs and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II.
Briggs was a member of Neuse Baptist Church for more than 35 years and of Bay Leaf Baptist Church for 10 years. He worked at The Jarvis B. Webb Company, Atlas Steel and Rockwell International for many years before retiring from Burlington Industries, Wake Finishing Plant.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, July 2 at Bay Leaf Baptist Church. Burial followed in Sunset Gardens in Henderson with military honors. Pallbearers were Gerald Marshall, Danny Bradley, Glenn Green, Jerry Pleasants, Randy White and Danny White.
Briggs is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Clara Lowery Briggs; a daughter, Judy Briggs of Wake Forest; a son, Marcus Scott Briggs and his wife, Doris, of Wake Forest; two grandchildren; an “adopted” son, Steve W. King. He was predeceased by his infant daughter, Sherree; and 11 brothers and sisters.
