To the editor:
Ever notice how the Left is in favor of all things diversity, except diversity of thought?
Young actors in Hollywood learn early on that if they don’t toe the liberal line they will not get work.
Aspiring college professors look around and see that only liberal professors get tenure.
Some colleges bar conservatives from speaking on campus because their students cannot emotionally bear to hear ideas they disagree with.
Some colleges even set up “safe spaces” where only people who think the same way are allowed to congregate.
Now, Dr. Bridges is upset that he sees conservative articles in The Wake Weekly. Then he becomes upset again when The Wake Weekly fails to publish his letter to the editor complaining about the conservative articles.
Managing Editor Clellie Allen did not owe Dr. Bridges an apology for not publishing his letter. I can assure you from personal experience that the Raleigh News & Observer does not publish every letter it receives.
On the whole, the News & Observer picks and chooses to publish those letters that best support the paper’s liberal bias. Numerous letters that I have sent to The News & Observer expressing conservative viewpoints never got published.
I enjoy The Wake Weekly because it publishes articles from both the conservative and liberal viewpoints. I am so glad The Wake Weekly assumes its readers are mature enough to handle diversity of thought.
Readers who do not like diverse viewpoints should just skip over the articles they do not agree with.
Please do not turn The Wake Weekly into yet another “safe space” one-viewpoint newspaper. We have far too many of those already.
