Grab your mitts, bats and sunscreen — it’s spring recreation baseball and softball season and that means it’s time for annual Recreation Day celebrations in Rolesville and Youngsville.
Both communities kick off family friendly festivities Saturday, all designed to help promote recreational baseball, softball and T-ball.
Rolesville begins with its traditional Rec Day parade of teams with lineup starting at 9 a.m. at Rolesville Baptist Church. The parade, which sets off at 10 a.m., will go down East Young Street to Main Street, head south to Redford Place Drive and end up at Rolesville Community Park.
The ceremonial first pitch takes place at 11 a.m. followed by more festivities and then games beginning at noon.
Youngsville opening day ceremonies start at 10 a.m. at Luddy Park, 200 U.S. 1A, across from Youngsville Elementary School and continue through 4 p.m. and include not just baseball, but also barbecue plate sales, a bounce house, face painting and Pelican SnoBalls, with all proceeds going to the parks and recreation program.
