WAKE FOREST — The St. Baldricks Foundation, a volunteer-driven charity dedicated to raising money for children’s cancer research, will host one of its signature head-shaving events at The Factory on March 7. There more than 300 people will shave their heads in solidarity with kids with cancer and raise money to Conquer Childhood Cancers.
Event organizers are recruiting volunteers to shave their heads for the event. People who want to shave should pre-register now at stbaldricks.org/events/thefactory. They may register as individuals or create teams to maximize the fun and fundraising potential.
The event at The Factory is organized by a group of local volunteers known as the Bald Entrepreneurs. Their involvement has grown from a one man shave team, inspired by a poster hung in a local bar in 2007, to the well-organized annual event which last year raised more than $130,000 and saw over 300 heads shaved. Since 2007, the group has raised over $570,000 for St. Baldricks Foundation.
Pre-registration of the shavees is essential because it allows for the event organizers to plan appropriately and most importantly allows ample time for the shavees to promote their participation and raise more money for the cause, said John Chestnutt, the lead organizer of the event at The Factory.
Additional updates and information about the shave event can be found on Twitter by following @BaldDollars and on the St. Baldricks Foundation Factory Facebook page.
