Hazel Conyers Rice, 85, of Youngsville, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at her home. Born Sept. 8, 1928, to the late Ruby Exum and John Clarence Conyers Sr., she was also preceded in death by her husbands, B.B. Smith and Spencer Rice.
In addition to an insurance agency owned with Mr. Smith, she owned a Tastee Freeze in South Carolina until they moved to Youngsville to be closer to family. She was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church and Oak Level Christian Church.
Her dog, Sweetie was her child. She is survived by six nephews, Gordon, David, Danny, John, Wayne and Jeff Conyers; two nieces, Janet Gardner and Debra Melaragno; and many great-nieces and nephews. The family would like to also give thanks to her two special caregivers, Donna Lee and Lacy Anderson.
Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. at Oak Level Christian Church, with Pastor Mike Edwards and Pastor Gary Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
