WAKE FOREST — Shortly after noon Wednesday, a lone man committed what police are initially calling an armed robbery of the PNC bank at 3619 Rogers Road, getting away with an undisclosed amount of money
Wake Forest Police Chief Jeff Leonard said that no weapon was seen, but the police are treating it as if he was armed until confirmed otherwise. Wake Forest Police Spokesman Bill Crabtree said no one was injured in the robbery.
Surveillance photos show a white male in a blue track suit with a whitish hoodie underneath the outer blue jacket. He is wearing a white ball cap with the University of Oregon emblem on the front.
Initial reports are that after the robbery, the suspect fled toward Walgreens and possibly Bexley at Heritage apartments after that.
Police quickly cleared the bank and the Walgreens while also searching the grounds of the apartment complex and the greenway area nearby.
Four public schools were put on code yellow lockdown due to their proximity. Heritage High, Heritage Middle, Heritage Elementary and Wake Forest Elementary were under the lockdown order for approximately 45 minutes while police and Wake County Sheriff officers searched for the suspect.
Also locked down were the private schools Thales Academy and Thales Academy Elementary.
Anyone with potentially helpful information is asked to call Wake Forest police at 919-556-9111 or the FBI at 1-800-209-2293 or submit a tip through the FBI website.
Photos of the suspect can be found on the Wake Weekly Facebook page and shared from there.
