WAKE FOREST — Are you ready for some football? The first game of the high school regular season is tomorrow (Friday). The Wake Weekly covers Wake Forest, Heritage, Wakefield, Rolesville and Franklinton High School football, so be sure to check in every week to see how your team did.
Starting off with Wake Forest, they will play at Panther Creek at 7 p.m. tomorrow (Friday). The last time the Cougars played a football game, they were knocked out early in the 4A state playoffs by Page. They will try to redeem themselves this season with their first game on the road against the Catamounts.
Next is Heritage. They will play at Green Hope at 7 p.m. Last year was head coach Dewayne Washington’s first season on the sidelines. Now it’s time to see how his Huskies will do under his second year.
Wakefield will play at Middle Creek at 7 p.m. The Mustangs were ranked the No. 1 team in the state by HighSchoolOT.com, so we’ll see how senior quarterback Matt McKay and the Wolverines fare against them on the road.
Rolesville is the only local team to open their season at home tomorrow when they take on Terry Sanford at 7 p.m. The Rams are coming off their first playoff season in program history. They will be led by first-year head coach Wilson Helms, so we’ll see how he does in his first game on the Rolesville sidelines.
Last, but certainly not least is Franklinton. The Red Rams will play at South Johnston at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow. They are also led by first-year head coach JeVar Bransome, who was an assistant coach at Rolesville last year. The culture change he brings to Franklinton will try to make a positive impact this season.
