RALEIGH — The Fred Smith Company was awarded a $1,859,081 contract by the Raleigh City Council for phase one of construction of the Horseshoe Farm Nature Preserve, located near the intersection of Ligon Mill and Louisburg roads.
Phase one development includes widening and paving of Horse Shoe Farm Road, dam improvements, a right-hand turn lane on Ligon Mill Road, a paved greenway connection to the Neuse River Trail, parking, signage, soft-surface walking trails, a restroom facility and a picnic shelter.
Improvements planned for future construction phases include the renovation of the existing farm house, an education and arts center, public art, playground, observation areas, outdoor amphitheater, additional parking, river-oriented recreation access, wetland observation and teaching stations and natural resource management.
Construction will begin this summer with completion of phase one scheduled for spring 2015.
