RALEIGH — A recent roundup of home repair scammers who targeted seniors is good news for everyone — except the scammers.
After defrauding victims in the Triangle area out of more than $300,000, 10 people will appear before a court to answer for their crimes.
Family, friends, and neighbors can all play important roles in helping to protect the elderly. Take notice if work crews are knocking on doors or making unsolicited pitches for home repair jobs.
Scammers often try to trick or intimidate seniors into expensive and unnecessary work. Warn loved ones about these tactics, and encourage them to decline.
Listen closely if a senior tells you about an encounter with a door-to-door home repair salesperson.
