Aerial assault

September 2, 2010
WAKEFIELD — WHS football coach J.D. Dinwiddie is known to take chances and it paid off in the Wolverines’ 42-28 win over Holly Springs Friday.
With the score tied at 28 and his team facing a 4th-and-6 at midfield, Dinwiddie called a fake punt to Terrance Scott, who ran 18 yards for the first down. Seven plays later, WHS running back Courtney Crews scored from 3 yards out, putting the Wolverines up for good.
“I was thinking they had the momentum. I just wanted to get the crowd back up and the team back up,” Scott said. “My line blocked for me and I broke it to the outside and got the yards for my team.”
The fake punt would’ve been the first punt of the evening for a Wakefield offense that gained 503 total yards. Quarterback Connor Mitch threw for 340 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions. He also ran in a touchdown for five total.
