Habitat needs help for WF projects Friday, Saturday
Habitat for Humanity of Wake County seeks volunteers to help with upcoming neighborhood revitalization projects Friday and Saturday. Projects will include exterior work such as painting, yard work and minor repairs on five area homes, as well as general community clean up and canvassing.
Friday’s project includes home repairs. Forty volunteers are needed.
Saturday, 40 volunteers are needed for home repairs, 20 volunteers are needed for community cleanup, and 30 volunteers are needed for canvassing.

Sample all things strawberry
This year’s Franklin County Strawberry Festival is tomorrow (Friday), from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Franklin County Farmers Market, 129 Shannon Village Shopping Center, Louisburg.
The recipe contest begins at 10:45 a.m. and all recipe entries are due at 10:30 a.m. Strawberries must be included in the recipe. Entry forms are available at the Franklin County Cooperative Extension Office, 103 S. Bickett Blvd., Louisburg.
Also, free strawberry ice cream will be available at 11:15 a.m. and education sessions about strawberries and how they grow begin at 11:30 a.m.
Blood pressure checks will be given by the health department, and there will be opportunities to win Walmart gift cards.

Wake Forest farmers market back to regular hours
The Wake Forest farmers market has moved back to regular hours, every Saturday 8 a.m.-noon.
Located at 150 N. White St., the market offers fresh-off-the-farm produce, pasture-raised beef, poultry, pork and lamb, free-range duck, chicken and quail eggs as well as honey, herbs, jams, preserves and delicious baked goods.
Art and craft time as well as live music by Kyle Scobie will be featured this weekend. As well as a special treat — Lori Tyman will offer chair massages.
Wednesday afternoons beginning in May, the market will be open 3-6 p.m.

Bunn celebrates Centennial
The Bunn Centennial Extravaganza is slated for Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Bunn High School. The celebration includes an inflatable bounce house, games, a plant giveaway, food vendors, arts and craft vendors, T-shirts for sale and more.

Tour historic Franklin homes this weekend
The Franklin County Historic homes tour returns Saturday and Sunday, featuring residences in both Franklinton and Louisburg.
Hosted by The Person Place Preservation Society, and featuring 12 sites plus Louisburg College’s 78-acre Dehart Botanical Gardens and Trails, it is the sixth biennial event of its kind.
Hours are Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 1-5 p.m. Advanced tickets may be purchased at $12 apiece from The Coffee Hound in Louisburg or by calling Dewey Botts, 919-539-7868.
Tickets may be purchased the day of the event for $15 at Franklinton Town Hall and Person Place, 605 N. Main St., Louisburg.

Shower kittens with love
The Franklin County Humane Society hosts a Kitten Shower Saturday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Youngsville Library on U.S. 1-A.
The event includes food, games, prizes and the chance to meet new kittens. Also at the event, the society will conduct a supply drive to collect kitten replacement milk, litter, canned kitten food and more. The society has registered for the drive at Walmart.

Place your order for Vidalia onions now
The Youngsville Kiwanis Club is selling bags of Vidalia onions through Tuesday.
The 10-pound bags of onions will sell for $10 and will be harvested and delivered the first week in May.
All of the proceeds will go toward local community projects and to support the Teen Kiwanis Key Club.

The Wake Forest Kiwanis Club hosts a food drive through Tuesday to benefit Tri-Area Ministry. Donation boxes are located at Lowes Foods and Food Lion grocery stores.

Join Wake Forest Police to help Special Olympics
The Wake Forest Police Department is raising money for the Special Olympics of North Carolina by selling T-shirts. The fundraising goal is $6,000.
There are two t-shirts available for purchase: a gray cotton T-shirt for a minimum $13 donation and a black technical polyester T-shirt for a minimum $20 donation.
