Upcoming Events: Seniors invited to celebrate Senior Health & Fitness Day The Carolina House of Wake Forest, a local Brookdale assisted living community, is celebrating National Health & Fitness Day with a free event promoting healthy lifestyles for residents and local seniors Wednesday, 10 a.m.-noon.The event features giveaways and sporting events like beach-ball volley, corn hole and basketball. Community pool opens Saturday The Wake Forest Parks and Recreation Department will open Holding Park Pool Saturday-Monday. The pool will remain open on weekends only until June 15, at which time the pool will be open weekdays and weekends until Aug. 25.Holding Park Pool, 133 W. Owen Ave., is one of the area’s largest outdoor public swimming pools. The 50-meter pool is open during the summer months and offers swimming to the general public, as well as swim lessons and parent/toddler swim times. Open swim times are 1-6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 1-7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Daily admission fees are $1 for children ages 2 and under, $3 for children ages 3-12 and $4 for patrons ages 13 and over. Wake Forest Youth Advisory Board meeting June 1 The Wake Forest Youth Advisory Board will meet Saturday, June 1 at town hall, 301 S. Brooks St. At this meeting, members will be introduced to candidates for the next school year. Also, coat donations will be accepted until Friday, May 24.Lobster sale fundraiser June 1 The Exchange Club of North Raleigh hosts a live Maine lobster sale fundraiser June 1 at the Quail Corners parking lot at Millbrook and Falls of the Neuse roads from 9:30 a.m. to noon.Lobsters are $15 each and are guaranteed to be at least 1.25 pounds each. Sons of the American Legion meet June 2 American Legion Post 187 in Wake Forest welcomes all male descendants of American Legion members or of deceased service members that would qualify for membership to attend a meeting Sunday, June 2 at 2 p.m. The meeting will discuss the Sons of the American Legion (SAL) service group.SAL is one of three organization under the American Legion banner and is a community-based organization that donates time and talents to support community events and national issues, such as children’s health and welfare. Public art benches, juried art show June 14 The town of Wake Forest will unveil new public art benches June 14 during the monthly Art After Hours, a celebration of the arts held the second Friday of each month from 6-9 p.m. in downtown Wake Forest.The benches will be presented after a ceremony at the Jones Avenue intersection at 6 p.m. There will also be a juried art show that evening. All artwork will reflect the spirit of the downtown Renaissance area and will be on display at Wake Forest town hall, 301 S. Brooks Street from 6 to 8 p.m. Optimist Club holds yard sale The Wake Forest Optimist Club is holding a yard sale in the Tuxedo Junction parking lot at the corner of Elm Avenue and South Brooks Street in downtown Wake Forest Saturday, June 15, 7:30 a.m.-1 p.m. All proceeds benefit the Wake Forest Optimist Club mission of bringing out the best in kids. The Tar River Land Conservancy is holding a guided nature hike along Fishing Creek and a tour of the historic Cherry Hill Plantation House in Warren County Saturday June 15, 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Participants will meet at Cherry Hill, 2748 NC Highway 58, Warrenton, and then carpool a few miles to the hike site.
