Deacon Jesse D. Evans, 84, of Wake Forest, entered eternal rest Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at his home.
He was born Nov. 1, 1929, in Wake County, to the late Rev. Willie D. and Eva Belle Eaton Evans. Jesse attended the former Ray School and W.E.B. DuBois High School in Wake Forest, and he was employed by Wilson Tree Company and Asplundh Tree Company for more than 20 years.
Jesse attended Evans Grove Missionary Baptist Church from an early age and served in many capacities, including as deacon.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margaret Crenshaw Evans; daughter, Cynthia Joy Evans Parker, of Wake Forest; two grandchildren, Jonathan E. Parker and Tamrah Joy Parker, both of Raleigh; son-in-law, Edward Lee Parker, of Durham; brothers, Eugene T. Evans, of Wake Forest, and Collie L. Evans, of Washington, D.C.; sister, Martha McKnight Sheppard, of Plainsfield, N.J.; brothers-in-law, the Rev. Leon White (Cecilia), of New Bern, and Earl Chrenshaw (Cynthia) of Philadelphia, Penn.; sisters-in-law, Doris Leathers Evans, of Raleigh, and Sylvia Crenshaw Stallings, of Wake Forest; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Feb. 8 at Evans Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Wake Forest, with Pastor Willie Mosley officiating. Burial followed in the Evans Grove Cemetery.
