John F. Stockdale, 81, of Raleigh, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014. He was born in Bergen County, N.J., the son of the late Lillian Strutt Stockdale and John D. Stockdale. He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane Engel Stockdale, after 41 years of marriage.
John lived most of his life in Park Ridge, N.J. before moving to Myrtle Beach, S.C. in 1995. He worked in the family dairy business before getting into retail with Morsan’s, Hermans World of Sporting Goods, and finally, Lowe’s Home Improvement. He was a proud Army veteran, a member of the Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, a self-proclaimed Irishman, and a loving husband, father and “Pop-Pop.”
Mr. Stockdale is survived by his children, Jeff Boyd. of Atlanta, Ga., Scott Boyd of Raleigh, Cathy Boyd of Augusta, Ga., and Kevin Stockdale, of Wake Forest; grandchildren, Jeffery, Corey and Matthew Boyd, and Luke and Madison Stockdale; a sister, Lillian Maggiolo, and four brothers. Also surviving are five sons, one daughter and several grandchildren from a previous marriage.
A memorial service honoring his life will be held 12 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Wake Forest.
