John James Schumitta, III, 71, of Raleigh, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013 at the VA Medical Center in Durham. He was born in Kearny, N.J., the son of the late Shirley Mae Corbett Schumitta and John James Schumitta, II, and was a veteran of the US Navy.
John was a man of many talents. He owned a window washing business and worked in trucking. He met his wife, Ann, while working at Dorothea Dix, and finished his working career at Duron. John also was a huge fan of Elvis and spent several years following his tours around the country. John loved collecting baseball and basketball cards, beanie babies and collector plates. He loved going on cruises with his wife, Ann.
John earned a science degree from Atlantic Christian College and an divinity degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Funeral services were held Nov. 8, 2013 at Woodland Baptist Church with the Rev. Tito Madrazo officiating. Burial was in the Salisbury National Cemetery with military honors Nov. 12, 2013 with the Rev. Chris Walker officiating.
John is survived by his wife of 22 years, Ann Register; son, Aaron Schumitta and his wife, Anna Marie; step-son, Tracy Register; his daughters, Tina, Debbie, and Shirley and by his son, John-John.
