Joy Garland, 70, of Dover, Ark., died Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at her home. She was born Jan. 5, 1944, in Johnston County, N.C., to Harvey and Rachel Flowers Mims. She was a member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed teaching the children’s Sunday School classes. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Garland; a son, Joe Garland; a brother, Walter Mims; and a sister, Rose Woodlief.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, Dawn and Jo Barnhill of Russellville, Ark.; Judy and Frank English of Murray, Ky.; Linda Channel of Kingsport, Tenn.; and Barney and Lynda Garland of Kitty Hawk; a brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Judy Mims of Wake Forest; a sister and brother-in-law, Lee and Gary Young of Willow Springs; along with eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral was May 2, 2014, at the Shinn Chapel, officiated by Brother Eddie Rogers and Brother Isaac Woodard. Burial was in Rest Haven Memorial Park.
