Karen Diane Schindler, 68, of Raleigh, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at the William M. Dunlap Center for Caring, after a long battle with cancer. Karen was born in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of the late Charles Peter George Ditsch and Hattie Evelyn Bade Ditsch, and was retired from IBM after 25 years of service. During her retirement she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, honing her many artistic talents, and doing charitable work for those in need. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who was admired by everyone for her strength, courage, and great sense of humor.
Karen is survived by her husband of 35 years, Fred H. Schindler Jr.; daughters, Kristi Vanderbeek and husband, Chris, of Willow Springs, and Shelby Gorman and husband, John, of Kimberton, Penn.; stepdaughters, Jackie Garman and husband, Briton, of Edmond, Okla., and Joanna Schindler, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; grandchildren, Taliah, Kylie, Hattie, Maya, Joelle, Joshua, Woody, Zelle, Ethan and Aidan.
A celebration of Karen’s life will be held near her birthday in July. The celebration will be open to all and details will be communicated at a later date.
