WAKE FOREST — Want to knock down hunger while having fun at the same time?
You can do just that Sunday, Aug. 25 for the Wake Forest Woman’s Club’s first-ever charity Bowl-A-Thon.
“We would like to make this event the place to be and be seen in Wake Forest on August 25,” Woman’s Club Vice-President Marilyn Bonnett said.
Teams of four are desired for the challenge, which will be held at Brooks Street Bowl in downtown Wake Forest. The alley is at 413 Brooks St.
The club has made this their No. 1 annual fundraiser for the year, and will use the monies raised to benefit a collection of causes.
Think Thanksgiving turkey giveaways, Backpack Buddies and school supplies for kids, Tri-Area Ministry food bank staples, Purple Heart Dinner sponsorship, as well as a host of other community initiatives and activities.
“It’s a community event to have fun and support the many projects the Wake Forest Woman’s Club undertakes,” said Bonnett. “In the past we’ve done antique shows. We’ve switched gears now to make it interesting to a greater variety of people, a wider age group.”
The cost is $100 for a team of four. The entry fee includes two games for each bowler, a soft drink, rental of bowling shoes and bowling ball, a coupon for one free game at a later date, and an opportunity to win a door prize.
Door prizes include grocery store, restaurant and other retail store business gift certificates.
In addition, there will be a 50-50 raffle.
Trophies will be awarded for first and second place. Additionally, the top point getter over two games will win $200.
Though there is no prize for a perfect game, The Wake Forest Weekly will run your picture on the front page.
Team leaders are encouraged to sign up online and pay with a credit card or PayPal, getting team members to reimburse them for it. Sign up early to choose which session to bowl in — 1:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m. or 5:30 p.m.
There is no age limit, though lane bumpers won’t be employed.
Registration must be completed by Aug. 21.
There are also opportunities for sponsorships and donations. People may donate in the name of any given team or bowler.
