WAKE FOREST — Hearing that a new homeless veteran’s shelter was going to open in Raleigh this month, the Wake Forest-based Ladies of Valor group decided that in addition to making quilts for veterans, they could gather supplies to help outfit some of the rooms.
Initially expecting to pull together just a few things, the project took on a life of its own and they ended up being able to furnish the kitchen and bathroom items needed for all 10 apartments.
Helping in the endeavor were, from left, Joan Bowers, Maria Leon, Sally Crilley, Vienna Mooney, Martha Killian, Donna Pernell, Anne Erb, Ruth Haffly, Helen Roth and Nancy Gilley.
The Ladies of Valor group meets Tuesdays 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the American Legion Post 187, 225 E. Holding Ave., Wake Forest and on Wednesdays 1-4 p.m., Northern Wake Senior Center, 235 E. Holding Ave., also in Wake Forest.
