Lattie R. Watkins, 77, of Youngsville, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at his residence. He was born in Wake County, the son of the late Lola Andrews Watkins and Delma L. Watkins. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Poindexter Watkins.
Mr. Watkins graduated from Hugh Morson High School in Raleigh in 1954. He retired as a postal clerk at the Brentwood Station Post Office. Lattie loved to volunteer and help cook at different fire department functions and fundraisers. He was a former member of New Hope Baptist Church, the New Hope Fire Department, and the Wake Forest Magic Square Dance Club. He was a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 349 and Troop 588 for more than 20 years, and was also a member of the Order of the Arrow cook team. He was a member of Woodland Baptist Church, where he enjoyed singing in the choir.
Mr. Watkins is survived by his wife, Linda G. Watkins; son, Scott Watkins, of Wake Forest; daughter, Cathy W. Jones and husband, Steve, of Wendell; and brother, Dan Watkins and wife, Kathy, of Fuquay Varina.
Funeral services were held Feb. 18, at Woodland Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tito Madrazo and the Rev. George Fuller officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
