WAKE FOREST — Perhaps you read about the people who were injured when a ride malfunctioned at the N.C. State Fair in October.
What you may be unaware of is that three immediate members of a Wake Forest family were severely injured — their father, Anthony Gorham, mother, Kisha Gorham and son 14-year-old Justen Hunter. Their niece, Shykeyma Dempsey, was also hurt.
Injuries included brain, skull, neck and spine issues.
Rahsaan Hunter, Justen’s biological father, has launched a crowd-funding effort at YouCaring.com to cover some of those much needed expenses not covered by insurance.
“The road to physical and mental recovery will be very long and rocky for the family. Both Anthony and Kisha will need to undergo several surgeries and intensive rehab in order to overcome this ordeal,” the website states. “This will require them both to miss an unknown amount of time from work.”
They’re asking for help raising money to assist with “medical bills, care and other expenses as they embark on a long road to recovery.”
So far, they’ve raised $7,705 of their $10,000 goal, much of it in $20 to $50 amounts. But donations have leveled off.
Said one anonymous contributor, “We don’t know you but we have been touched by your story. We wish you the best and our family will be thinking about yours.”
