Mamie Ruth Stainback Kearney, 101, of Wake Forest, died Friday, May 2, 2014, at Hillside Nursing Center. She was born in Pitt County, the daughter of the late Mary Elizabeth Carroll Stainback and Edwin Ernest Stainback, and was a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church for more than 70 years. Mrs. Kearney was preceded in death by her husband, Shem Francis Kearney; four brothers, Ashley, Clifton, Edwin and Clinton; and three sisters, Bertha, Iona, and Virginia.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 4, 2014, in the chapel of Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl Hunter officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Kearney is survived by her daughter, Barbara K. Ray and husband, Bobby; grandchildren, Carolyn Mitchell and husband, Robert, and Tony Kearney and wife, Pam; great-grandchildren, Kevin Mitchell and Brittany Kearney; step-grandchildren, Lynn Burke and husband, Melvin, and Mike Ray; step-great-grandchildren, Kristy Francis and husband, Derek, John Ray and wife, Destiny, Joshua Burke, and Jacob Ray; step-great-great-grandchildren, Hailey and Kaitlyn Klein and Krystal, Tara, and Brittney Francis; along with numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
