Marguerite Wash Meares, 76, of Wake Forest, passed away, Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Woodford County, Ky. to the late Mervin Wash and Dorothea Dozier Wash. Mrs. Meares attended Transylvania University for music studies and was retired from the graphic arts department at IBM with more than 17 years of service.
Mrs. Meares is survived by her husband of 37 years, John M. Meares, Jr.; children, Sam Hawkins of Versailles, Ky., Kerry Hawkins and wife, Sharon, of Franklinton, Joel Hawkins, of Louisburg, and John M. Meares III, of Hickory, N.C.; grandchildren, Caitlyn Hawkins, Christopher Hawkins, Meredith Meares, Melissa Meares, Amanda Morris and husband Chris, Jeffrey Meares and Sarah Meares; and great-grandchildren, Aedyn Baucom, Calvin Morris and Brennan Meares. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John M. Hawkins, and a son, George Meares.
Visitation took place Tuesday, Jan. 28 at Bright Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 29 in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home. Burial followed in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.
