Mary Christine Sawyer, 82, of Wake Forest, died Saturday, March 1, 2014, at the Hospice of Wake County Home. She was born June 30, 1931 in Framingham, Mass., the daughter of the late Thomas James Gallivan and Catherine Anne Gallivan.
Mary was a loving mother, joyful, caring grandmother, loyal wife and fun-loving friend. Her independent generous spirit brought life and laughter to all who interacted with her. Mary’s passion for baking delighted everyone who entered her life. She brought a childlike spirit to the young and old and was always willing to go and adventure.
Mary moved to Kingston, N.Y. in 1961. She and her late husband, Raymond J. Sawyer, were married for 40 years. Mary worked as a regional office manager for Leaseway Trucking Company for 20 years and Matlak Trucking Company for 20 years. She enjoyed her 60 years of golfing, not for the sport, but for the socialization with her friends whom she treasured immensely. Mary had great love for her daughter and son-in-law, Michele Evangelista and Nicholas Evangelista and four grandchildren, Nicholas, Theresa, Dante and Anna Doria Evangelista.
Mary is survived by four sisters, Anne O’Connor, Ellen Magri, Margaret Hogan and Catherine Spinney, and one brother, Fran Gallivan. She was proceeded in death by two brothers, Thomas Gallivan and Edward Gallivan.
Memorial Services will be held at St. Catherine of Siena in Wake Forest, Friday, March 7, at 11 a.m.
