WAKE FOREST — The ninth Wake Forest Memorial Flag-Raising Ceremony will honor Petty Officer 3 James Weiss who served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from February 1943 to June 1946 and during the Korean war from June 1951 to June 1952. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in June 1952.
The ceremony, which includes the lowering and folding of the U.S. flag by members of the Wake Forest High School JROTC Honor Guard Detail, will take place Monday, Nov. 2, in front of the Wake Forest town hall, 301 S. Brooks St. The public is invited.
Members of Weiss family are scheduled to attend the ceremony. The flag will be presented to the family by Wake Forest Mayor Vivian Jones. There will be no further memorial celebrations until April, 2016, when the late Lt. Col. Richard Maxey, a former U.S. Marine officer, will be honored.
