WAKE FOREST — The city of Raleigh Public Utilities Department (CORPUD) began the annual mowing and clearing of public sewer easements in the Wake Forest area. The work is expected to be completed by early November.
CORPUD crews will initially concentrate on easements located in the Horse Creek Basin which includes the St. Ives, Fairlakes, Waters Edge, Country Club Downs and Prestwick subdivisions.
The easement clearing work is intended to prevent roots from entering cracks and joints in sewers which can block the flow of wastewater and cause it to overflow from a manhole.
A CORPUD sewer easement is an area in which CORPUD has the right to keep clear access; perform maintenance, repairs, inspections, improvements and renovations; and install water or sewer pipes, manholes and related items.
Property owners are encouraged to check their land acquisition records to determine whether and where their property includes utility easements.
