WAKE FOREST — The Heritage High School swim team returns some top swimmers from 2013-14, including one that competed in the 4A State Swimming Championships.
Gabe Nugent is back for the Huskies, which finished 29th overall in last year’s state swim meet. Nugent competed on the men’s 200 yard medley relay at the state meet.
Nugent and his teammates placed eighth in last year’s Eastern Regional Swim Meet, with a time of 1:44.99, which qualified them to compete in the state meet.
“We will look for him to continue to contribute in the relays as well as his individual events,” said Heritage swim coach Priscilla Overton.
Caroline Knowles just missed making the state championship meet last year and also brings experience to the Husky team.
“We expect Caroline to earn her spot at the state meet this year,” Overton said.
Another top swimmer returning is Ally Davis, who earned Cap 8 All-Conference honors last season.
Davis swims the 200 Individual Medley and breaststroke events.
“Ally will continue to contribute points for us,” Overton said.
Both Knowles and Davis swam in the 4A Eastern Regional meet last season.
Overton said she is also counting on new swimmers Stephen Tresslar and Robert Horvath.
Tresslar is a senior transfer from St. Louis, Missouri.
“He is a sprinter but will contribute in a variety of events,” Overton said.
“Robert will swim in relays and in distance events,” Overton said.
Thirty swimmers make up the Huskies team this season.
“We are small but a tightly knit group,” Overton said. “The kids work hard and are willing to push themselves to get better.”
Heritage’s first meet is Monday at 6 p.m. at North Carolina State University.
