July 29, 2010
FRANKLINTON —  Police warn of an increasing number of motorcyclists going at top speeds along U.S. 1 during the warmer months.
The latest in the growing trend occurred July 23 during a fruitless chase that took Officer S. Zuniga into Kittrell.
Zuniga first noticed the motorcycle traveling 95 miles per hour in a 55 mph-zone going north on U.S. 1 near Pokomoke Road.
He attempted to overtake the motorcycle and switched on his blue lights and siren. Zuniga caught up with the cycle near the Winston Street extension, an area approximately three miles from Pokomoke Road. The motorcyclist failed to stop.
According to police reports, the chase continued into Vance County, with the motorcyclist exceeding speeds of 120 mph. At Kittrell, Zuniga called off the pursuit and returned to Franklinton.
