Ex-officer busted for posing as police

July 29, 2010
WAKE FOREST — Michael Lewis Dunlap, 29, was arrested recently for impersonating an an officer — a position he used to have.
The former Franklinton police officer was charged with impersonating law enforcement after an argument July 17 at a convenience store near his residence at 1044 N. Main St.
Around 3 p.m., Dunlap pulled up to the BP station and left his 2004 Chevy Trailblazer running with music on.
Wake Forest police Sgt. David Richards said the store employee, Christopher Murray, told Dunlap the music was too loud and to turn it down.
“There was an exchange between the two of them,” Richards said. “They were splitting hairs regarding the town noise ordinance.”
According to witnesses, Dunlap represented himself as a Wake Forest police officer.
“He said it was an expensive radio, he spent time in the military and he worked for Wake Forest drug enforcement,” Richards said. “He told them he could have the radio as loud as he wants. It was a heated exchange.”
