The area experienced its first moderate snowfall in some time last weekend, resulting in few ill effects in Wake or Franklin counties, officials reported.
Five inches of snowfall were reported at Raleigh-Durham International Airport for the weekend, though up to eight inches was reported in some areas.
“We only had, as of this morning, five weather-related accidents — and no injuries,” Wake Forest police Lt. Trent Coleman said Monday.
That was pretty much the same story all over — most people left their cars parked at home and took their dogs out to walk and kids out to sled.
Most businesses were closed Saturday, and some again Sunday; many church services were canceled as well. Wake and Franklin schools were closed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Several grocery stores remained open Saturday and Sunday. Wake Forest’s downtown coffee shop was closed all day Saturday, but one block over on Brooks Street, La Foresta Italian Cafe & Pizzeria stayed open.
