Sewer rates on the rise

February 4, 2010

Wake Forest sewer rates are on the way up.
The rate hike, which has yet to be approved, could bump up 6 percent, cumulatively, each year over the next five years. Meaning, if your monthly bill was $50 in 2010, it would rise to $53 in ’11, then $56 in ’12 and $65 in ’15.
At their work session Tuesday, town commissioners learned of the need for an estimated $15 million to replace an aged and leaky system of sewer pipes throughout Wake Forest.
“The biggest part of the problem is parts of our system are old,” Town Manager Mark Williams said.
Both the replacement cost and the suggested rate hikes are rough estimates. The cost could be less, or more, depending on the results of a comprehensive survey of sewer pipe needs the town plans to take.
