Robert Wayne “Bob” Bridges Sr., 71, of Wake Forest, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at Rex Hospital. He was born in Wake County to the late William Elmo Bridges and Lena Catherine Grice Bridges.
Mr. Bridges was a graduate of Wake Forest High School, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was retired from the North Carolina Industrial Commission and was also a retired auxiliary chief with the Wake Forest Police Department. He was a lifelong resident of Wake Forest, who loved people and always tried to make a difference in his community. Mr. Bridges was a member of Wake Forest Lodge No. 282 A.F. & A.M., vice president of the board of directors for the Wake Forest Fire Department, and was an active member of Youngsville Baptist Church. He and his wife also raised German Shepherds for many years.
Mr. Bridges is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sarah Glover Bridges; sons, Robert W. “Rob” Bridges Jr., of Wake Forest, and William Garth Bridges and wife Christina, of Wake Forest; grandchildren, Mary Catherine Bridges and Caroline H. Bridges, both of Wake Forest; Kattie B. Dooris and husband, Joel, of Raleigh; Amanda L. Bridges and Brandy L. Bridges, both of Wake Forest; great-grandson, Bradley Dooris; brothers, W. Ralph Bridges and wife Marjorie, of Creedmoor; Steve G. Bridges and wife Faye, of Creedmoor; and J. Ted Bridges and fianceé Betty, of Wake Forest; along with many nieces, nephews and extended family.
A celebration of Mr. Bridges’ life was held Sunday, May 25, at Youngsville Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles Stratton officiating.
