WAKE FOREST — The 2000 Jeep belonging to Willie Edward Rogers, 891 Long Mill Road, is loaded onto a tow truck following an accident which snarled traffic for about an hour Monday, at about 11:30 a.m.
Rogers, 64, was traveling north in the left hand lane on U.S. 1 when, according to witnesses, he failed to stop for a red light at the intersection with South Main Street. Rogers’ Jeep struck a car driven by Brenda Culp Morris of Raleigh who was attempting to cross U.S. 1 from South Main to New Falls of Neuse. The impact caused Rogers’ Jeep to overturn and roll 43 feet onto the car being driven by
Linda Ann Monaco of Youngsville. Monaco was stopped in the left turn lane of southbound U.S. 1.
Meanwhile, Morris’ vehicle was thrown 357 feet before coming to a stop off the right side of the road, northbound on U.S. 1.
Morris was transported to WakeMed for possible head and arm injury as was an unnamed passenger in Rogers’ vehicle. Monaco and Rogers’ declined treatment. Rogers was cited for running a red light.
The damage to Morris’ car was estimated at $16,000, while the damage to Rogers’ Jeep was estimated at $8,000. The estimated damage to Monaco’s vehicle was $3,000.
