Elementary school news

Heritage Elementary

•Aug 12 – 22, the school holds “A “Reading Oasis” Scholastic Book Fair Parents are welcome to come in and shop with their children or on their own. The fair is open daily 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
•Aug 15 – Open House for track 4, 6-7 p.m.
•Aug 15 – First PTA meeting of the new school year, 7 p.m. in the cafeteria. There will be a reception with refreshments. Childcare will also be provided.

Wake Forest Elementary

•SPIRIT NIGHT TONIGHT (Thursday), at PDQ, 11690 Northpark Drive, Wake Forest, 4:30-7:30 p.m.
•Open house for tracks 2 and 4 is Aug. 15, 5:30-7 p.m.
•The school is having a fall festival mid-September and the PTA would like to plant some seedlings and flowers. Anyone able to donate seedlings or two inch flower pots should bring them to the school by September 3rd.

Middle school news

Franklinton Middle

•Football camp and conditioning sessions are Aug. 13-15, 6-7:30 p.m. Any seventh or eighth grader planning on trying out for the school’s football team is encouraged to attend.
Campers should meet on the Franklinton Middle School football field and wear shorts, T–shirts and sneakers or cleats, and bring plenty of fluids to drink.
•Football tryouts begin Monday, August 19, 6-7:30 p.m. on the Franklinton Middle School football field.
•Soccer and volleyball tryouts are Aug. 26, 4 p.m. Seventh and eighth graders may try out for any sport, but all athletic forms and a current physical must be completed and submitted at time of tryouts.
Athletic forms may be picked up at the Franklinton Middle School office. Call 919-494-2971 with any questions.

Heritage Middle

•Open house for tracks 3 and 4 will be Aug. 29, 5:30-8 p.m. Parents will be able to complete volunteer registration 5:30-6:30 p.m., attend the PTA/School Information Session meeting 6:30-7 p.m. and meet teachers 7-8 p.m.
•The PTA reminds parents to join the PTA and participate in the No-Fuss Fundraiser — 100-percent of donations go to Heritage Middle School classrooms, staff and students.

Wake Forest High

•Student and adult athletic passes are now on sale. They are at a reduced price through Aug. 27 through the school’s website,
•The office is open for school registration from 8 to 11 a.m. and noon to 2:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
•The next regularly scheduled general membership meeting of the Wake Forest High School Parent-Teacher-Student Association will be Aug. 20, 7 p.m. in the school media center.
•The PTSA chapter meets the second Tuesday at 7 p.m. every month unless otherwise noted.
Memberships may be renewed or begun for just $10 per person and can be mailed to Wake Forest High, attention: PTSA or online at
•Volunteer registration is under way. Volunteer no later than 3:30 p.m. Oct. 31 at the school.

Wakefield High

•Freshmen Early Start Day is August 23, 8:30-11 am. Doors will open at 8 a.m. This is an excellent opportunity for students to become familiar with Wakefield High School before the first day of school.
Students will run through an abbreviated schedule to meet all of his or her teachers and get valuable school information.
Freshmen Early Start Day will be taking place on both campuses; buses will be transporting students between the campuses to get them to their classroom locations. However, transportation to and from the event will not be provided.
Please refer to your child's class schedule and Wakefield High School's website for information regarding what campus your child should report to that morning.

•Fundraising discount cards are now on sale for $20. Proceeds from the sale of the cards goes to the school.
